Titanic Being Built
Who in the world would think about building the largest ship ever during the early 1900’s? Well in 1907, White Star Liners decided to build not only one ship but instead they decided to build two ships, the Titanic and Olympic. According to Webtitanic. com, “the keel of the Titanic being laid on 31st March 1910” (Titanic’s Construction). Construction took place in Belfast Ireland. “The construction of the Titanic was handled by Harland and Wolff,” according to Titanic-Facts.com (Titanic Construction). Construction began on the gigantic ship until 1909. “It took 3 years for the building of the Titanic to be completed and in the end it cost $7.5 million dollars for the ship to be finished,” says Titanic-Facts.com (Titanic Construction).$7.5 million dollars in 1913 to now is approximately $164,871,969 now.
With such an expensive ship being built, there had to be some kinds of luxury furniture, wood work, metals, and glass work. Titanic was equipped with the most magnificent furnishings. Titanic was very similar in ways to her sister ship, the Olympic. One big difference that webtitanic states is, “When the Titanic was nearing completion there was a last minute design change, due to experience of the Olympic, the open windows on the forward end of A deck were replaced by new sliding glass windows” (WebTitanic).
